Sep. 2023: 🎶If You're Looking For Me🎵...😉
A couple of big shoutouts & a teaser from my upcoming project...
A Very Special Birthday S/O to my one and only MANAGER SUPREMUS! 🥳🎂🥳
BY DJ YAMZ
A breath and a pause, and the biggest love from Tema! 💚🧡
Because of Abigail aka ‘Biggie’ aka ‘Manager Supremus’ aka ‘Odogwu Bongos’ aka ‘The Eternal Birthday Girl.’ Just because it’s her birthday month, I had to switch up the format for this month’s issue.
And here’s why:
There are friends and there are friends.
This month I discovered a whole new level of friendship and community that I didn’t know was possible. And at the heart of it all, was this incomparable woman who I have the privilege to call my friend.
Abigail, I think anyone who knows you well can say that they really know what it means to have someone who will be at their side throughout life’s moments. To this day, I still don’t know that many people who are as selfless, giving and as brilliant as you are.
Thank you for being a great friend and I thank God for bringing you to the start of what I know will be a wonderful decade for you.
Chale Abi, make I lef am for here…abi you knor 😉
Obrigada Biggie 💚🧡

But then again, if you do have control, you gotta rise to the occasion.”

A S/O to The Changemakers 👊🏿
Click on the button below to find out more about the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests and what you can do to support it:
I tend to shy away from public discussions on Ghanaian politics but there are moments where I recognize that I have to put my personal preferences aside and do what I can to support movements that seek to create positive change.
The current state of affairs in Ghana is nothing short of shameful - bad enough that over a three-day period (Sep. 21 - 23), scores of Ghanaians took to the streets in peaceful protests to demand change from our political leaders.
If you haven’t heard about the recent #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests, I urge you to click on the above button to find out more about it and see how you can support the movement and help sustain its momentum.
For Those Who Keep Going
Before I go any further, I’d like you to listen to something with me:
Rama’s 2 SWEET Intro
[Tap ▶️ to listen to Rama Brew’s heart-tugging intro for our song 2 SWEET]
Listen to that audio clip and tell me you don’t feel something.
Tell me that Rama’s vocals don’t hit/resonate with you in a way you can’t really explain but you just feel.
This is Rama’s natural singing voice - no special effects.
And these are her own lyrics.
The vocals you hear in that clip is for a special song titled 2 SWEET on my upcoming project (STADIUM STATUS!) with Psalmyst Sax. Hearing Rama’s vocals soloed gripped me so much, it just felt wrong to keep it to myself. Her vocals changed my approach to arranging the entire track (you’ll have to wait small for the full song 😉).
Here’s my reaction to the song with a few of the Made in Tema (MINT) Collective crew: Afroscope, Freddie $igns and thequietson. We were only a little hyped. Just a little 😂😂😂
The Boys’ Reaction (via a WhatsApp Voice Note)
[Tap ▶️ to listen to our reaction to Rama’s 2 SWEET intro]
I first met and worked with Rama while making 27 in Accra Town. She is the muse and sultry voice you hear on Blue Film - a personal all-time favourite in my production catalogue. How would I describe Rama? First, she’s one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet. Second, she is someone who has been blessed with so much natural talent that has been honed with tons of hard work. Third, she has an immense work ethic. Rama delivers every time she’s called upon. Every single time. I feel so energized whenever I get to work with her.
Her contributions so far on STADIUM STATUS! have reinvigorated me and I’m super motivated to make this project a memorable one.
For the creators, entrepreneurs, changemakers and hobbyists out there: I hope my excitement for this track motivates you to keep at that idea/dream/project you have. It may not always be fun. Sometimes, it even seems easier to give in to the reasons why something can’t be done rather than tapping into why that idea/dream is important and putting more energy into visualizing that project taking off. More recently, for my own projects and other endeavors, I’ve been holding onto novelist Octavia Butler’s oft-repeated mantra: persist.
Encountering and rising through difficulty be part of the leveling up process 💪🏿
Let’s keep going! 👊🏿✨
Love,
Yamz
